New website launched to support treatment of Addison's Disease
29 September 2016
Dechra Veterinary Products has launched a new interactive website to help owners of dogs with Addison’s Disease to manage their condition.
The new site - www.myaddisonsdog.co.uk - aims to demystify the condition and contains a wealth of information and resources to help dog owners understand the condition and monitor their pet's progress.
Addison’s Disease, or canine hypoadrenocorticism, is caused by a reduction in corticosteroid secretion from the adrenal glands. Symptoms can include vomiting, diarrhoea, lethargy, lack of appetite, tremors or shaking, muscle weakness, low heart rate and collapse. These symptoms are non-specific and often wax and wane, making it a challenging condition to diagnose.
If left untreated, Addison’s disease can present as an acute, life threatening emergency and earlier this year Dechra launched Zycortal®, the only European licensed treatment for the condition, to the market.
Craig Sankey, Brand Manager at Dechra Veterinary Products, said the new website was designed to support owners whose pets have been prescribed Zycortal.
“www.myaddisonsdog.co.uk features sections describing the signs and symptoms of Addison’s Disease, how the condition is diagnosed and treated, in order to provide support for a dog’s journey back to health.
“Owners can also sign up for an interactive treatment log book to chart progress of their pet’s treatment and provide reassurance about how their dog is responding to Zycortal therapy.”
He added: “Management of the condition can be challenging and the dedicated website aims to support veterinary professionals in their ongoing treatment of pets with this condition.”
