Charity boosted thanks to Dechra Veterinary Products

14 November 2013

Staff at Dechra Veterinary Products have raised hundreds of pounds for a local charity following a social event and raffle.

Employees at Dechra Veterinary Products celebrated the Best of Shropshire at the social event for staff at the company's headquarters, near Shrewsbury, to raise money for Severn Hospice.

As well as tucking into local food and drink, staff supported a raffle with prizes donated by a number of Dechra's suppliers which raised £466 – an amount then matched by the company.

Daniel Smith, Fundraising Officer at Severn Hospice, was presented with a cheque for £932 at the company's Sawsaw offices by Dechra Veterinary Products' UK and Ireland Country Manager Bob Parmenter.

Mr Parmenter said: “Every year we have a social event for our employees at Sansaw and 2013 saw us celebrate the Best of Shropshire's local produce, with a hog roast pig reared less than five miles away and a glass or two of Tanners' wine! But as well as a social occasion, and a chance for us to thank our employees, it is an opportunity to raise funds for a good cause.

“Severn Hospice, in Shrewsbury and Telford, offers excellent care to patients, and their families, at an extremely difficult time. It cares for almost 2,800 patients a year including around 78 people each week at day at its three day hospices.

“So we were delighted to be able to support the work they do in the county and we'd also like to thanks our suppliers for being so generous in donating raffle prizes for the event.”

Mr Smith said: "The care which Severn Hospice provides is free, but not without cost. We rely on the support of fundraisers, charity events and companies like Dechra to help us fund the care we offer.

“We'd like to thank Dechra and the staff very much for nominating Severn Hospice to benefit from their fundraising. Their contribution will help us continue to care for people living with complex and progressive illnesses and support their families during the time they spend with us.”
