Dechra has handed over a cheque to Hilbrae Kennels – a family run charity near Telford which looks after stray and abandoned dogs until their owners reclaim them or new homes are found.
Staff at the company voted for the charity to receive the donation, which will go directly to paying for the dogs' welfare.
Mark Floyd, UK Country and Ireland Manager for Dechra Veterinary Products, said: “We support a number of charities as part of Dechra PLC's wider support of the community in which we are based. But causes which support animals are special to us and our staff, hence our employees voting to make this particular donation to Hilbrae Kennels, which is only a few miles away from where we are based.
“The team at Hilbrae do a fantastic job, with all the money donated going towards helping to look after the dogs and not lost in administration or other costs.”
Marty Burrell, of Hilbrae, said: “We'd like to thank Dechra Veterinary Products and the staff based there for making this generous donation which will really make a difference to the animals we care for. “The donation will be going towards a block of new kennels. The block we bought originally for the strays and was designed to last 10 years has been in almost constant use for 25 years. “Donations also help to fund veterinary care as well as making sure the animals are warm, clean, fed and exercised. We rely on charitable donations to continue our work – no stray dogs are ever put down. We welcome visitors anytime.”
Hilbrae is also the area kennel for Dobermann Rescue Ltd, taking in unwanted and abandoned Dobermanns from across Shropshire and the West Midlands.
